Horus vs. Jesus

ALERT ALERT ALERT!!! THIS POST IS FALSE!!! I apologize for spreading incorrect information. I believed it to be true when I posted it. Zarove below has proven me incorrect. I apologize for being taken in by an article that actually came up from google scholar. Looking at the footnotes of my “peer reviewed” article should have clued me in. I did not read that carefully. I will not further spread this myth.

Understand that I still do not believe either the Horus myth or the Jesus myth. However, I now also know that it is a myth that the two myths are the same.

In the spirit of the Bush-McCain Challenge, which shows that most people cannot tell the difference between Bush and McCain, I ask weather you can tell the difference between Horus and Jesus. So, guess which one was:

1. Born of a virgin?
2. Baptized at age 30?
3. Had 12 disciples?
4. Was crucified?
5. Was resurrected 3 days later
6. Was associated with the astrological sign Pisces, the fish?
7. Was known as The Lamb of God?

Why Pro-Choice is Pro-Life

Here’s a friendly reminder from a doctor who remembers fixing up the damage done by illegal abortion. It’s becoming more and more forgotten that desperate women will get their abortions, legal or not. And, when they’re not legal, they may be lethal. Therefore, pro-choice is indeed the pro-life stance.

Repairing the Damage, Before Roe

And, for the delusional religious individuals in the audience, you may be interested to know that abortion was practiced 1,550 years before the time of the myth of Christ and even solidly before the dates in the Old Testament. And, yet, despite the fact that the both the Old and New Testaments were not at all squeamish about discussing sexual matters, there is no explicit mention at all of abortion in either testament.

Therefore, Jesus was also pro-choice.

How Would Jesus Vote?

OK. I’m an atheist. I do not even truly believe that Jesus as a flesh and blood human ever walked the planet. However, this fictional character plays a large part in many people’s lives and, unfortunately, their voting decisions. Perhaps, if people really think about Jesus when voting though they just might come up with different answers. So, I address this post to the believers.

So, contrary to my usual rants where I take a radical and non-standard stance in order to point out the violence in the Bible. In this post, I am going to hypothetically take the more mainstream view of Jesus. First, I’m going to pretend that I believe he actually existed. Then, I’m going to cherry pick the Bible, not in the way I did in my Thou Shalt Kill post, but instead, in the way that most religious people do when they respond to my usual assertions about the mythical character.

So, in short, I’m going to point to the nice things Jesus is supposed to have said. And then, given the mainstream view of Jesus, I’m going to discuss his political views and see how well they align with today’s religious right. Then, I’m going to attempt to address the issue of how Jesus might vote in an election if he were alive today. Finally, I will point out that if Christianity is about people attempting to be Jesus-like to the best of their ability, then religious Christians should vote that way. Let’s see how this goes.

Jesus Hates Me!

First, let me make a few things clear to avoid a bunch of misunderstandings.

1. I am an atheist and antitheist. This means I do not believe in any deity, including Jesus, and so don’t really believe my own title.
2. I do not hate Christianity more than any other type of theism. I am writing this post primarily in response to Higghawker who has repeatedly posted scripture on my site, presumably with the intent of converting me. It is my hope to redirect all such replies to this topic and leave non-religious topics free of mythological influence.
3. I believe it is highly unlikely that Jesus ever existed as a human being.
